Holier Than Thou?

26th Sunday of Ordinary Time (A)

Who do you think would be holier: a priest or a prostitute? Jesus challenges our expectations in this Sunday’s gospel reading by telling a group of priests and elders that prostitutes and tax collectors will enter the kingdom of God before they will. Looking at this in light of St. Paul’s instruction to think of others as more important than ourselves, I talk in this week’s reflection about how God doesn’t judge us based on how holy we are compared to other people, but by how humble we are before Him.
