What Are You Giving Yourself To?
30th Sunday of Ordinary Time (A)
What is love? We can easily mistake love for affection — the good feelings you have about someone or something. But love is more akin to devotion than affection. Love is a gift of your self. So what is it you are giving yourself to? How do you spend your time? What occupies your thoughts? What is your focus? Sin is a disordered love, wherein we give ourselves to something not worthy of such a great gift. In this Sunday’s gospel, Jesus gives us the secret to properly ordering our love — and it begins by learning to love Love itself.
