Waiting… but for what?
2nd Sunday of Advent (B)
Advent is a season of waiting and preparation. But what are we waiting for? We await the celebration of the Lord’s Nativity at Christmas. More importantly, we await with joyful hope for the Second Coming of our Savior in glory at the end of time. But then what? What will it be like for us after the Lord’s coming?
In the second reading for this Sunday’s Mass, St. Peter says that “we await new heavens and a new earth” (2 Pt 3:13). What does this mean? In our reflection this week, we take a look at what the new heavens and new earth are all about. Knowing what we are waiting for can help give us focus as we continue to wait and prepare not only during this Advent season, but the entire season of our lives as pilgrims on this earth.
