The Sacrament of Mercy

The 2nd Sunday of Easter (Divine Mercy Sunday)

Why do Catholics confess their sins to a priest? Why do we think that a mere man has the authority to forgive our sins? Can’t only God do that? The short answer is, “Because Jesus says so!” Our gospel for the Sunday of Divine Mercy tells of Jesus instituting the sacrament of Confession (or Reconciliation) by giving the Apostles the authority to forgive sins. In this week’s video reflection, we take a look at this gospel reading and its background as we discuss the great Sacrament of Mercy.
