Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion (A)

Palm Sunday begins with the crowd welcoming Jesus with shouts of “Hosanna!” But it ends with the same crowd shouting “Crucify him!”

We can be like the crowd, fickle in our faith. We can be quick to welcome Jesus into our hearts, but equally quick to crucify him with our sins. But we have other examples to follow from the Passion narrative that is read today. We can be like Mary and John, steadfast in their faith, never leaving the side of Christ even in his suffering. Or we can be like Peter, sincere but weak, abandoning Christ in fear, but returning to him in love.
