On Giving to God What is Due
29th Sunday of Ordinary Time (A)
In this Sunday’s gospel, Jesus is asked whether it is right to give taxes to Caesar. Looking at Caesar’s image on the coin, Jesus replies, “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God” (Mt 22:21). If the coin belongs to Caesar because it bears his image, when what bears God’s image (you and I) belongs to God! In our reflection this week, Deacon Matt talks about the respect and obedience we owe both to God and to others who hold authority in our lives.
