Important COVID Update

Upstairs Student Center closed for the week

As many of you know, the Catholic Student Center has two bedrooms upstairs that we rent out to students each semester. Today one of our student residents has tested positive for COVID-19. This student was not present at Mass on Sunday evening, so there was no exposure from that event. He is unable to return home to isolate and so will be isolating in his room at the Catholic Student Center. Following instruction from campus, the Diocese, and current CDC guidelines he will be in isolation for at least 5 days.

During this time, the upstairs floor of the Catholic Student Center will be closed. The downstairs floor (where our chapel is located) is on a separate HVAC system from upstairs. It will remain open, though we require anyone who would like to come and pray in the chapel to please wear a mask and use the hand sanitizer provided by the chapel entrance.

Since my office is located upstairs, I will be working mainly from home during this time. Students may reach me by email or by phone/text. Any students who have meetings scheduled with me this week will be contacted individually and given the option to either meet online or in person at an alternate location on campus.

Students who planned to come by CCM this week to purchase Spring Parking permits may continue to park in our lot with their Fall permits until next week. Please contact me directly if you have any questions about obtaining a parking permit.

As our Wednesday night gathering this week was already canceled to allow for our participation in the 50th anniversary Holy Hour (5:30pm) and Mass (7:00pm) at St. Mary’s, this should have a minimal impact on our schedule. We hope to be fully open again next week after a thorough sanitization, and will keep everyone posted.

Thank you all for your prayers, your patience, and for continuing to abide by the WCU Catamounts Care guidelines to ensure that we are all able to continue to gather safely this semester on campus.

In Christ,
Deacon Matt
